Why the Wildflower Center is Needed
At The Wildflower Center, our vision is to build a holistic health system designed specifically for trauma survivors — one that supports the whole person across every stage of life.
In August, we learned that it was Gastroparesis Awareness Month — a month that, unknowingly, aligned with our sharing of the powerful story of Jamie Angilly, a young woman who passed away at age 20 from intestinal failure on August 9, 2024.
Through our podcast, The Buried Truth, we are uncovering the heartbreaking realities faced by young women like Jamie — those who sought answers for rare, complex medical conditions, often rooted in unaddressed childhood trauma.
Too many of these women were dismissed, misdiagnosed, or confined to inpatient mental health units under the false assumption that their suffering was “all in their head.” Their symptoms were minimized, their pain overlooked, and their hope eroded — all while their conditions worsened.
At The Wildflower Center, we believe it’s time to change that. We’re here to educate, to raise awareness, and to create a community where trauma survivors no longer suffer in isolation. Together, we can break the shame, restore connection, and reclaim the possibility of true healing and optimal health.
